Perfect weather on the Leelanau Peninsula drew healthy crowds to the Lake Leelanau Street Fair and Empire Heritage Day Saturday.

“What an incredible Street Fair yesterday — full of music, laughter, local talent, and neighbors coming together. Your energy and support made the whole day shine.
Grateful for this community and everyone who showed up to celebrate with us,” said the Lake Leelanau Community Association.

Celebrating Heritage Day

The Empire Area Museum hosted Heritage Day Saturday with old-time music, treats, arts and crafts.

Treats included Moomers ice cream, free popcorn, and samples of homemade maple sugar candy, sauerkraut cake, apple cider, and on-site butter. Art-and-craft demonstrations included barn quilting, rug hooking, tatting, knitting, yarn spinning, corn shelling, washboard laundering, sauerkraut making, and log cutting

The Empire Area Museum includes a main saloon, with two floors and a small store, and three auxiliary buildings: the Schoolhouse, Fire Hose House, and Billy Beeman Barn.
