LEELANAU HISTORY: October 16, 1951

October 14, 2021

If the dozens of Leelanau County residents who attended the Northwest Michigan Housing Summit online last week learned anything, they learned that we still have a long way to go toward making affordable housing more available to those who need it in Leelanau County. The event was conducted by Housing North, a nonprofit organization devoted to helping communities throughout its 10-county service area “create housing solutions that meet their unique needs.” *** A boating accident Saturday on Little Glen Lake claimed the life of a 63 year-old Suttons Bay man. Dead is Kevin D. Herman who apparently drowned after losing control of his powerboat and being thrown overboard. He was accompanied by his close friend, Kelly VerSnyder Walter, 50, who was also thrown overboard but survived. Walter was wearing an unsecured personal flotation device (PFD). Herman was not wearing one at the time of the accident.
