‘Conflict of interest?’

To the editor:

In Northport, the superintendent’s father sits on the Board that hires, evaluates, and pays him. Tom Wetherbee has served since 2007 and was on the Board when his son Neil was hired in 2016. Neil’s wife, Corrine, works in the district too. On September 30, she posted that “The Northport teachers are excited to vote for” specific Board candidates, beside a photo of her and the superintendent. A board cannot independently oversee a family member. That is a conflict of interest, whatever anyone’s intentions. Please vote for Eric Potes, Ben Hale (write-in) and Kali Dignan, who will bring needed independent oversight.
