Electors are set to head to the polls on Nov. 3 to vote on a millage proposition for the replacement of the Mill Pond Dam in Northport.
The question at hand? To approve or not approve a millage that would allow the Village of Northport to levy 1.24 mills ($1.24 per $1,000) to provide funds for the replacement and reconstruction of the Mill Pond Dam and related improvements.
The millage would be levied for a period of 20 years, beginning in 2027 through 2046, and would provide funds for the dam’s reconstruction and replacement including: all necessary engineering, permitting, design, environmental compliance, repair, maintenance, finance costs, legal expenses, and all related improvements, costs and expenses. In the first year the millage is levied, the levy of 1.24 mills would raise approximately $103,524.
