For the second time this season, the Lakers (7-2) and Panthers (5-4) will meet on the gridiron Friday at 7 p.m. for a district semifinal showdown.

The Lakers beat the Panthers on Friday, Oct. 9, winning 33-0.

Frankfort started the season 5-1 before losing its last three games to the Lakers (Oct. 9), East Jordan (Oct. 16) and Oscoda (Oct. 23), all playoff teams.

The Lakers recovered from a 2-2 start to win five on the road, including three straight shutouts over Frankfort, Benzie Central and Tawas Friday (58-0)

The Lakers, along with Harbor Springs and East Jordan, shared the Northern Michigan Football Conference title.

The winner will most likely hit the road next Friday (Nov. 6) to Bark River Harris (7-2) as the Broncos battle L’Anse (4-5).

The Lakers fell to Bark River Harris on a walk-off kick return in last season's regional final on Glen Lake’s turf.

On the other side of the bracket, Beal City (9-0) hosts Beaverton (4-4), while Iron Mountain (7-2) and East Jordan (7-2). The winners of each district tournament will advance to the regional semifinals.
