Lakers demolish Glads

Glen Lake boys basketball outsized and outmatched rival TC St. Francis 55-42 during the Northern Michigan Basketball Showcase on Saturday.

Laker sophomore Jacob Plamondon was dominant with 31 points and 17 rebounds.

Glen Lake went into halftime up 24-14 thanks to defensive stop after defensive stop for the Lakers. The first of two dunks on the night for Plamondon provided a spark for the Lakers in the third quarter as St. Francis began to mount a comeback. Glen Lake junior Benji Allen delivered 12 crucial points, while Gage Baker (4), Dylan Cundiff, Colebrook Sutherland, and Cooper Bufalini all scored baskets.

The Lakers turned around and defeated Kingsley 64-50 on senior night Tuesday. Allen led all scorers with 20 points, five rebounds, and Plamondon provided 18 points and eight rebounds. Bufalini had eight points, and Cundiff had nine points, seven rebounds.

Flashback to last Thursday, Feb. 8, as Glen Lake narrowly escaped Onekama 38-36 in a clash between brother coaches Jason Bradford and Nathan Bradford.

Both wins set up a showdown against Glen Lake and Benzie on Friday as the Lakers hope to tie the Huskies in the Northwest Conference basketball race. Benzie defeated the Lakers 60-51 on January 25.

Laker girls defeat Comets

Glen Lake girls basketball (135) traveled to Leland last week and won 44-28.

The Comets had the game tied 17-17 at halftime, before Glen Lake held Leland to 11 points in the second half.

Ava Raymond led the Lakers with 15 points, followed by Eleanor Valkner with nine points, and Lydia Fosmore and Jessie Pugh combined for eight points. Leland senior Mallory Lowe had 10 points, and Lorna Wiesen had six points.

Last Wednesday, Feb. 7, the Lakers fell to Kingsley in a thriller 53-51. Pugh led Glen Lake with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists; Fosmore 12 points, 5 rebounds; Valkner 7 points, 9 rebounds.
