Leland Township Fire and Rescue was able to minimize fire damage to a home on North Lake Leelanau Drive Monday. Shortly before 5 p.m., the department was dispatched to a home in the 2700 block of North Lake Leelanau Drive. A passerby reported smoke coming out of the eaves and chimney. There was no one home at the time of the incident. At 5:14 p.m, the fire was determined to be out and mutual crews were released as additonal tasks were completed. The fire was determined to have started in a mechanical unit in the home that, growing undetected, burned through the floor and had spread into the living room. No injuries were reported. Over 20 firefighters from six departments responded to this call, including Leelanau Township Fire Department, Suttons Bay - Bingham Fire & Rescue, Grand Traverse Band Fire/Rescue, Glen Lake Fire Department, Cedar Area Fire & Rescue.
