Former Glen Lake band teacher Elijah George was arrested on three counts of surveying unclothed persons and three counts of using computers to commit crimes on Feb. 15.
In a probable cause statement obtained through FOIA, “A student observed George with his cell phone on knee and it appeared that George was attempting to take a photo up a female student’s skirt.”
George’s attorney, Jesse Williams, did not provide a comment as of this publishing. James Kessel, Leelanau County Undersheriff, says that George was arrested in Marysville and transported to Leelanau County where he was arraigned and released on $5,000 bond.
Another student took a picture of what George was doing and reported the activity to school administration, according to the probable cause statement.
The picture that student took was provided to school administration and law enforcement.
George was called into the office to speak about what the student saw him doing.
While walking to the office it appeared that George was allegedly deleting items off of his cell phone, according to the statement.
George’s phone was placed on a desk while he was speaking to school administration. When the individual interviewing him stepped out, George picked up his phone off the desk and again appeared to be deleting items off his phone, according to the statement.
George’s phone was seized and searched pursuant to a search warrant.
Multiple pictures and video were found on George’s cell phone, according to the statement.
According to the probable cause statement, there are at least three videos found on George’s phone inside classrooms that alleges the video camera was pointing upwards, underneath a female student skirt, as well as a video capturing a student in their bra.
George resigned from Glen Lake earlier this month.
Glen Lake Community Schools Superintendent Jason Misner sent an email to parents earlier this month announcing the resignation of Glen Lake 6-12 band director Eli George.
“The safety of our students and school community is always our top priority here at Glen Lake Community Schools. We strive to ensure our school buildings are places where students feel safe, welcomed, and comfortable so that they can learn and thrive,” Misner said.
