LCN ‘food truck’ making rounds
It’s been awhile, but the Leelanau Christian Neighbor food truck was back one the road. The truck on Sunday morning parked in the parking lot of West Side Community Church, where Mary and Steve Stanton accepted donations of non-perishable and perishable food, plus items of value that can be resold at the Samaritan’s Closet shop in Lake Leelanau. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM

‘Rolling Taps’ start Memorial observance
Leelanau Township will again hold its Rolling Taps in Northport at 10 a.m. Memorial Day. The Taps stations start just south of town and continue all the way to the Leelanau Township Cemetery, where the Memorial Day Service will start at 10:30 a.m. The Northport Community Band will play at the service, and the featured speaker is Jim White. The Memorial Day Rolling Taps started in Northport in response to COVID. The annual service was not held that year, since people couldn’t gather. Road work underway
Road work underway
County Road 614 will soon be completely closed between Alpine Road and Weisler Drive as crews carry out planned culvert work and a road reconstruction of Gallivan Road northeast of Solon Township. GTB chairwoman, council take oath of office
With the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) 2024 general election results officially wrapped up and certified, the tribe welcomed its new chairwoman, Sandra Witherspoon, at its swearing-in ceremony on Friday at the Leelanau Sands Showroom in Peshawbestown. Tribal council members Angelina Raphael, Anna Miller, and incumbent Donna Swallows also took the oath of office, and will serve alongside fellow council members Brian Napont, Tina Frakenberger, and Jane Rohl. 05/22/2024 04:45 PM

Former Elmwood Township Supervisor Jack Kelly filed a complaint at the 13th Circuit Court on May 10.
