A safe haven for rescuing, caring for animals
Linda Oosse, known by many in the community as someone who cares for all sorts of animals — from goats and cows to chickens and pigs — has been looking after and learning about farm animals since she was a child. Elmwood Township’s harbormaster, Pete Moon, is settling down after a busy season, both personally and professionally. He kept up with his duties this summer despite heart attacks putting him in the hospital on two separate occasions. A recently discovered chemical compound that makes it diffi cult for invasive sea lamprey to find their breeding grounds may be a new tool for controlling a parasite that threatens Great Lakes fish. Emily Lingaur comes from a family not only rich in history, but also traditions that she now passes down to her daughter, Astrid.
