To the editor: I call on our county Prosecutor Hubbell and Judge Hamlyn to offer a written explanation as to why they decided as they did, concerning the tragic loss of Evelyn Kellogg. Arriving at drunk driving causing injury is a far cry from the reality of death, wouldn’t you agree? Bradley Price Northport. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

To the editor: Reading this past year about the campgrounds proposed — and turned down —-in Leelanau County reminds me of a recent summer vacation. My wife and I rented a condo in Frankfort, and spent one of our days driving, shopping, and hiking Leelanau County. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

To the editor: Do you wonder why legislation supported by a majority of citizens doesn’t become law? Recent examples of proposed legislation that was supported by a majority of citizens but did not pass, include the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act (69% public support), and Dream Act (72% of likely voters supported). 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

To the editor: Do you remember the Maffia mob boss John Gotti — the so called “Teflon John” because he was indicted and tried in three different consecutive trials on felony charges of five murders, obstruction of justice, extortion and racketeering and found guilty. Gotti avoided consequences for his crimes but never once claimed he was being “picked on” or was the object of someone’s animus. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM

‘Christ in Christmas’
Reporter’s note: A look into how a Christian-based holiday is observed in Leelanau schools represents the second of a four-part series relating the birth of Jesus Christ with how we celebrate Christmas. The first part, published in the Enterprise last week, dealt with Biblical roots for Christmas feasts. Stories about Jesus’ place in Christmas songs and why the holiday doesn’t end on Dec. 25 will follow. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM

Northport holiday concert a success
Even with little to no snow on the ground, the holiday spirit abounds in and around Omena. A high point of the season is the annual Northport Holiday Concert, and it did not disappoint this year. The Village Voices opened the program with a wonderful selection of carols, both traditional and newer. The Northport Community Band followed with a really fun mix of holiday arrangements, from a beautiful medley of the Nutcracker dances to “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, where Kevin LaRose was the best Grinch ever. The concert ended with the Village Voices joining the band and the audience for a sing-along of Christmas tunes. Everyone gathered afterwards to mingle and enjoy a huge selection of wonderful, homemade cookies. The band looked festive in their Ugly Christmas Sweaters. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM
