Valeta Marie Kalchik (Morgan), or as most of us knew her as Teta, was born on March 1, 1935 in Traverse City, Michigan to her loving mother and father, Maudie Morgan(Nemic) and Chase Morgan.

Teta was a kind, loving, energetic and spiritual person. She grew up in Ahgosatown (Omena), Michigan on the shimmering shores of the Grand Traverse Bay and had a sincere connection with the water and surrounding nature. She belonged to a big family and lived in a robust and beautiful stone house with her adored father and mother, and her many brothers and sisters. Teta loved reminiscing about her childhood on the sentimental shoreline; it had a lasting impression on her.

Teta married Stanley Kachik, of Omena in 1955. They bought land on County Rd. 631, which is now N. Overlook Road, and there Stanley built the family home using milled lumber from their land. Teta missed her shoreline undoubtingly, yet was able to enjoy her cherished water down at her childhood home and Omena Beach. Teta and Stanley had two wonderful children, Kirby Kalchik and Carnie Bunker(Kalchik). During the kid’s childhood, Teta was a busy mother, wife and homemaker. Teta came from a big family and as did her husband, Stanley, the home was always busy with extended family visiting and making memories. Teta loved gardening and tended a large bountiful garden and created idyllic landscaping around the home. She loved adventure, the whole family would often travel to Florida dn the surrounding states to visit family.

Later on in life, Teta and Stanley adopted three of their grandchildren in 1992, filling the family home once more with children. Teta resumed the role of homemaker and care for her grandchildren selflessly.

In 2004, her beloved husband passed and Teta moved to a condo in the Holiday HillsofTraverseCity. Shecontinued her passions there, gardening and by planting flowers around the condo’s mailboxes, swimming in the bay down at the Traverse City State Park, and traveling until she transitioned into a nursing home in Northport, Michigan.

Throughout her life, she always tried to put others’ needs before hers. She was a hard worker, but always found time to go and have fun and enjoy life. She loved going out to dinner, eating quality seafood, long walks, sunbathing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Music was important to Teta, she loved the way it could take her away to a different realm. She enjoyed Andrea Bocelli most of all. Shedelightedinthelittlethings, dragonflies, swans, and the silly jokes of children. She had the greatest laugh and the best hugs. Her love was big and the people she loved felt it. She will be dearly missed by her family.

Teta is survived by her children, Kirby Kalchik and Carnie Bunker, her grandchildren, Jennifer Kalchik Jeffrey Kalchik (Kati), Heather Putney (Derek), Julian Bunker, Jesse Bunker (Cara McKee) and great grandchildren, Trenton Kalchik, Owen Putney, Lily Kalchik and Charlotte Patterson, brothers Norman Morgan and Jeff Morgan, sisters, Abby Morgan and Mary Jo Morgan.

Teta is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Kalchik, sisters, June Busby, Sandra Pliskow, Margo Luna, and brothers, Milton Morgan and Richard Morgan.

Teta was secure in her faith and loved her savior Jesus and would repeatedly tell her family to keep their eye on the King of God. She knew that this world wasn’t the final destination.

Luke 23:43 43 Jesus Answered him, “Truly I tell you , today you will be with me in paradise.”

In the loving presence of her daughters, Teta went home to the Lord on December 28, 2023 at the age of 88 in Northport, Michigan. Teta was cremated and a family oriented celebration of life is to follow in the summer of 2024.

A special thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Northport Highlands and Hospice for their loving care.
