LAKE LEELANAU – Thelma “Tammy” Jean Bullis, 78, of Lake Leelanau, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Medilodge of Leelanau.

Tammy was born on March 25, 1946, in Interlochen, Michigan, to Dennis and Delia (Hall) Shawandase.

A strong and compassionate woman, Tammy dedicated her life to helping others, both within her family and her community. Tammy worked as a Community Health Representative, providing home visits and often staying late to ensure everyone received the care they needed. She was genuine and deeply caring, always putting others before herself. She also worked as an optical technician, assisting people in finding the perfect fit for their glasses. Tammy’s commitment to her community and her willingness to lend a hand left a lasting impact on those she helped.

Tammy raised her family in Grand Rapids during the 1970s before moving north to Suttons Bay, Peshawbestown, Northport, and eventually Lake Leelanau. Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, she brought laughter and joy to family gatherings. Whether speaking in her native language at family events or laughing at her own clumsy moments, Tammy had a gift for making people smile.
