24,2024. Hewasborn on Dec. 26, 1938, in Lake Leelanau, Michigan to Bill and Ruby (Crocker) Popp.
On Feb. 23, 1963 he married Nancy Dawson who preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2018, after 54 years of marriage.
Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan and the Knights of Columbus, Council #8113.
He was a metal worker, retiring from Al Walters Heating & Cooling after 30+ years. He enjoyed hunting and playing euchre and was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Joe is survived by his children: Sherry Hudson, Bill (Susan) Popp, Andy (Cathi) Popp, Sandy (Greg) Bodziak and Mike (Nichole) Popp; proud grandfather of Austin, Ashley (Kayla), Caitlyn Popp, Amber (Philip) Motter, Nick Hudson, Cecilia (Joey) O’Connell, Olivia, Dominic, Vincent Bodziak, Dustin Bawden, Tecole (Saul) Ruiz; greatgrandchildren, Destinee, Adriyana, Erin, Charlotte, George, Meredith, Cameron, Matthew, Abby, Logan and Ember, and greatgreat grandchildren, Brinleigh and Baylor. He is survived by his siblings, Eunice Lingaur, Richard Popp, Raymond Popp, Dorothy Korson, Patricia Groesser and Betty Cederlind, as well as their families, and many extended family members and friends.
Besides his beloved wife Nancy, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward, sister Arlene Mathews and son-in-law Jay Hudson.
Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, 218 East Main Street, Milan, MI 48160 on Thur., Jan. 2, 2025, from 4:00-8:00pm, where a rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 7:00pm. All are welcome.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 9425 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti MI 48197 on Fri., Jan. 3, 2025 at 11:00am where he will lie in state from 10:00am until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
