Barbara Watt Vilter, age 77, of Leland, Michigan, passed away on January 13, 2024 at Effie’s Place.
She was born on July 7, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late David and Mary Watt. Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Barb is survived by her daughters: Lisa Vilter McConnell (Craig), Kate Vilter Stassen (Coenraad), and Robin Blakeley Vilter (Neil Dumford). She was a loving grandmother to Maggie McConnell (Gemma Merchant), Jack McConnell, William Sawyer, Mackenzie Snider, and Sean Vilter. Barbara is also survived by her siblings: Sherwood Hardie (Logan), David Watt, and Louise Jeffery (David).
While raising 3 daughters in Cincinnati, Barb was involved in the Junior League of Cincinnati, enjoyed playing tennis and golf at the Cincinnati Country Club and here at the Leland Country Club. Barb moved to Leland full-time after purchasing The Riverside Inn with Kate. She loved living here, hosting breakfasts for the inn guests, and working in her gardens at the inn and her home. She had a passion for gardening and was actively involved in Wildflower Rescue with the Leelanau Conservancy and The Little Garden Club. She found joy in traveling with dear friends and family, creating cherished memories along the way. Barb was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Bill Vilter, who was the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Thomas William Sawyer.
A service to celebrate Barb’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be determined.
