CEDAR – Margaret Sue Siemiantkowski, 78, of Cedar, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025 in Traverse City, Michigan.

Margaret was born on April 20, 1946, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Churchwood) Hitch. On August 14, 1965, at St. Paul’s Chapel in Big Rapids, MI, she married Joseph Anthony Siemiantkowski, who survives her.

Margaret was a devoted and loving mother with a passion for nurturing and supporting children. Her dedication to education led her to work as a registrar for Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit, where her warm spirit touched countless lives.

Margaret had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the piano. Her faith and commitment to her church were central to her life. She was actively involved in a variety of church activities, including liturgical floral arrangements, marriage prep classes, prayer groups, the Rosary Altar Society, and helping with funeral luncheons, chicken dinners, and church cleaning. Margaret’s selfless service and unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

Margaret’s generosity knew no bounds. She had a knack for connecting with people—she was witty, warm, and carried Miraculous Medals to share with strangers, spreading her faith. Her devotion to the Divine Mercy was a cornerstone of her faith, and she openly shared its message with all.

Margaret also known as Nanie, Nan-Bon, and Nan to her 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She embraced this role with boundless love. Margaret found immense joy in summer activities, from tending to her flower gardens to lakeside sunrise prayer. She delighted in campfires with her grandchildren “Aaaap North.” Margaret’s caramel corn was legendary, a 1946 ~ 2025

sweet treat that became a hallmark of her love and hospitality.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph; her children Jennifer (Knute) Aasen, Kathryn (Stan) Laffrey, Matthew Siemiantkowski, Phillip (Lisa) Siemiantkowski, and Julie (Uri) Bielawski; her siblings Charles (Elaine) Hitch, Thomas (Ellen) Hitch, and Steven (Patti) Hitch; her grandchildren Rachel (Chris) Green, Seth Aasen, Emily Aasen, Carolyn (Lucas) Morrissey, Bridgitte Laffrey, Nicole Laffrey, Samantha Laffrey, Michael Siemiantkowski, Megan Summers, Madeline (Cody) Spaller, Benjamin Siemiantkowski, Sarah Siemiantkowski, Joshua Bielawski, Marcos Bielawski, Brooke Bielawski, and Claire Bielawski; and her great-grandchildren Fletcher Morrissey and Maeve Spaller. Margaret is also survived by many cherished friends who brought joy, laughter, and companionship to her life.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Hitch.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. with the family greeting friends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11 at Holy Rosary.

Burial will take place at a later date.
