Died January 11, 2025 COLORADO – Joan Frances Whitney passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 85 near Boulder, Colorado, at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Bruce Bailey.

The family is so thankful for their loving attention as wonderful caregivers for the last 12+ years.

Joan Frances Whitney was born on September 26, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Harold and Louise (Whitney) Wynkoop. In 1970, Joan married the love of her life, Bill Whitney. They enjoyed many years in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Joan’s life was dedicated to being a wife and mother. She loved to cook for her family. She also enjoyed needlework, sewing, attending Bible Study at Cascade Christian Church and volunteering at the business office of Metropolitan Hospital (now University of Michigan Health - West). After Bill retired, they moved to Suttons Bay, Michigan. After Bill passed, Joan moved to Colorado and spent her final years living with Sherri and Bruce in the quaint town of Erie.

Joan is survived by her children, Terri (Terry) Wing of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Sherri (Bruce) Bailey of Boulder, Colorado; Jonathan (Lily) Whitney of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Laura Whitney of Chicago, Illinois. Her stepson: David Whitney of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her grandchildren: Loretta (Joe) Bristol, Matthew Wing, Stephen (Olga) Shaffer; Sista Luna (Matthew Lundy), Zachary Luna, Genevieve Bailey (Jacopo Giovannini); Lucy Whitney, Maxwell Whitney, and Samuel Whitney. Her great grandchildren: Tyler Bristol, Robert Cooper, Landon Wing; Matthew Wing, Jr., Brayden Wing, Gabriel Chau; Elijah Shaffer, Moriah Shaffer, and Joanna Shaffer. Her siblings: Bill DeBartolo of San Antonio, Texas and Diane Way of Casper, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her spouse, William C. Whitney; parents, Harold and Louise Wynkoop; in-laws Barlow and Lena Whitney; brothers Walter de Cremieux and Gratian DeBartolo; stepson Bill Whitney; and grandson Chris Bailey.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 20th at the Keswick Maple Grove Cemetery.
