LAKE LEELANAU – Leonard John Couturier, 76, of Lake Leelanau, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Leonard was born on May 8, 1948, in Traverse City, the son of David and Laura (Brow) Couturier.

He graduated from St.

Mary’s School in 1966 and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Delores Ann Mikowski, on May 20, 1967, at St. Mary’s Church in Lake Leelanau. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to family.

Leonard had a remarkable sense of humor and a knack for making everyone around him laugh. He was a man of high integrity, known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. As the owner and operator of Leelanau Plumbing for decades, he took great pride in his work and built lasting relationships within the community. Above all, Leonard instilled in his children a strong sense of family and values, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments.

Leonard is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Delores; his children, Clint (Wanda) Couturier, Michelle Couturier, Jason (Sarah) Couturier, Adam (Corine) Couturier, and Clay (Suzanne) Couturier; his grandchildren, Megan (Matthew) Haapala, Emily (Cameron) Harden, Lauren (David) Freundl, Anna (Michael) Stratton, Natalie (Dustin Hunter) Hagstrom and their father Russell Hagstrom, Died February 16, 2025 Brianna Couturier, Libby Couturier, Melia Couturier, Sawyer Couturier, Shawn Couturier, Evelyn Couturier, and Abner Couturier; and his greatgrandchildren, Malcolm, Zachary, Celine, Maria, Titus, and Ambrose Freundl, Alli and Liam Haapala, and Michael and Avilia Harden.

He is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Dorothy) Couturier, Luella (Dale) Furnish, Bernie (Martha) Couturier, Alvin (Vicki) Couturier, Anna May ( Jerry) Kelenske, and Linus (Loretta) Couturier. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, David and Laura Couturier; his siblings, Gerald (Lorraine) Couturier, Ruth (Vick) Kalchik, Raphael (Kitty) Couturier, and Eloise (Fermin) Walters; and his sisterin- law, Leslie Couturier.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary prayed at 7 p.m., on Thursday, February 27, at St. Mary’s Church in Lake Leelanau. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 28, at St. Mary’s Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring.
