Charles J. Hirschfield

LELAND – Charles “Chas” Joseph Hirschfield, 74, of Leland, passed away on Thursday morning, March 27, 2025 at the Medilodge in Suttons Bay.
Chas was born February 5, 1951 in Detroit, the first born son of Sidney and Virginia (Stadelman) Hirschfield. On November 3, 1973 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Gills Pier, he married Susan Marie Fischer, who preceded him in death on March 27, 2003. As fate would have it, Charlie passed on the same day and date as his beloved Sue, 22 years later.
In 1971 Chas and Susan moved to the Gills Pier area to operate Fischer’s Happy Hour Tavern in Northport. Chas was a decades long charter fishing captain on his boat the “Fishin’ Fool”, and operated out of historic Fishtown in Leland. He was a talented musician, playing the bass guitar in many area bands. Charlie deeply treasured when his family would come to Lake Leelanau every July for many years. Charles is survived by his siblings, Thomas (Kathy) Hirschfield, Patricia (Paul) D’Angelo, James Hirschfield, Ann (Mark) Dion, John (Stephanie) Hirschfield and ten loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Susan, and his parents, Sidney and Virginia.
A celebration of Chas’ life will be announced at a later date this spring.
