Marie was born on April 26, 1958, in Traverse City, the daughter of Glendon and Eugenia (Peplinski) Lawson.

A lifelong resident of Leelanau County, Marie was a true social butterfly who brought light and laughter wherever she went. She could often be seen making her daily rounds through the quiet streets of Suttons Bay, always with her beloved little dog, Yappy, trotting faithfully at her side. Marie was known for facing life’s challenges with a smile. That smile was more than just a gesture; it was a symbol of her strength, her unshakable spirit, and her deep love for the people around her. She had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved — simply by being herself. With laughter, warmth, and an open heart, Marie brought joy wherever she went, and her light lives on in all who 1958 ~ 2025

knew her.

Marie is survived by her children, Chad (Piyanart) Steimel, Troy ( Jessi) Lawson, and Robert “Opie” J. Corwin; her siblings, Lee (Peg) Lawson, Leonard (Lu) Lawson, James Lawson, Thomas (Cindy) Lawson, and Marcia Edinger; her grandchildren, Kane Steimel, Scarlett Smith, Parker Lawson, Kellen Lawson, and Landyn Lawson; her sister-in-law, Shirley Lawson; many loving nieces and nephews; and, of course, her faithful companion, Yappy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glendon and Eugenia, and her brother, Larry Lawson.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14th, at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Suttons Bay. Father Leonard Paul will officiate.
