Darlene Gladys Hackney

Darlene Gladys Hackney

March 31, 2025

Darlene Gladys Hackney (Rieg) went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 31st, 2025, peacefully in her sleep, just as she wished. While in the hospital, she chose not to pursue further treatment, expressing her faith and readiness to meet Jesus. Her sons, Scott, Tim, and Jim, had the opportunity to pray with her and thank her for being a wonderful mother who raised them to be God-fearing men. Darlene was a righteous woman who dedicated much of her life to leading others to the Lord. Her family prayed for her glorious entrance into the kingdom, where she would be welcomed by a host of witnesses and her beloved husband, Tom Hackney, who preceded her in 2018.

Darlene was a loving and talented individual, known for her artistry, cooking, and avid reading. In her early years, she spent time helping less fortunate children through swimming lessons while sharing her unconditional love. Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Gigi), and great-grandmother (great Gigi), creating many cherished family memories through hosting gatherings. She was a prayer warrior, gracious, peaceful, considerate, and fun to be around. Darlene enjoyed boating, RVing and traveling the world with her husband. Darlene will be deeply missed by her sons and their families: Mike (Jenifer) Hackney, Tim (Christie) Hackney, Scott (Barb) Hackney, and Jim (Deb) Hackney.

Her grandchildren include Jessica (Don), Stephanie (Nate), Timothy (Stephanie), Isaiah (Sidney) Meriah (Mark), Carter (Jessica), and Mason. Her greatgrandchildren are Parker (13), Sam (6), Levi (2), Grayson (5), Isla (3), Charleigh (10), Blake (4), and Melania (1).

Darlene’s best friend and sister-in-law, Ann Sutherland, also mourns her passing. Darlene graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and used her talents to help run the family business, a preschool in Plymouth, Michigan. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy in her family of creativity and love.
