Joanne Roush Thomas passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on Sunday, January 26, 2025. She was born on March 5, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Stanley James Roush and Ruth Mueller Roush, both natives of Pittsburgh, Joanne had a younger brother, Stanley James Roush Jr. who predeceased her in September, 2024. Joanne was a graduate of Smith College in 1951. She married Charles Andrew Stover Jr., known as Andy, also of Pittsburgh, in 1952. Joanne is survived by her 2 children, Catherine Stover Borden of Leland, Michigan, and Charles Andrew Stover III of Houston, Texas, as well as their spouses Harold W. Borden and Laura Adams Stover. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Peter Andrew Borden, Lauren Ann Borden and Charles Andrew Stover IV. Joanne and Andy lived in Houston for many years and spent many summers at the Roush family cottage on North Lake Leelanau. Andy died in 1972.
Joanne married William W. Thomas of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky in 1981. They lived in Austin, Texas, and in Leland. William predeceased Joanne on September 29, 2001.
Bill and Joanne were avid golfers and spent much time enjoying rounds of golf at Leland Country Club. Joanne was a long-time member of Saint Luke’s Methodist Church in Houston and Leland Community United Methodist Church. For 10 years Joanne organized the Leland Summer Church. Joanne’s interment and memorial service will be held at the Beechwood Cemetery in Leland on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 4 PM. Immediate family and friends are welcome to attend.
