Kathy S. Waslawski

Kathy S. Waslawski

1953 ~ 2025

CEDAR – Kathy Sue Waslawski, 72, of Cedar, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at home with her family at her side.

Kathy was born June 5, 1953, in Bay City, the daughter of Earl and Rosella (Stephens) Johnson. On August 27, 1982 in Leland she married Edmund Francis Waslawski who preceded her in death on February 19, 1997.

Kathy graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1972, and after a few years found herself in Northern Michigan to be wooed and married to Edmund F. Waslawski for nearly 15 years while raising their young family in Cedar, MI where they gladly served the Holy Rosary community with their gifts and talents together.

In addition to her role as a loving wife and mother, Kathy shared her passions through good friendships with almost anyone she met. Her love for music and cheering on the team at sporting events, capturing and showcasing nature’s beauty in her photography, and cherishing the quality time outdoors camping and enjoying the bonfire will always be celebrated in her memory.

The things Kathy loved became a part of her life’s work. Her love for music led her to serve as organist for many years while the children attended Holy Rosary School. Her love for photography led to the photo department for many years at Meijer and Walgreens in Traverse City and can be seen through snapshots she shared. She always enjoyed the softball games at the Cedar Ballpark and loved to support her children in Leelanau County and Glen Lake Sports.

Kathy could be heard almost every season cheering on her Lions, Tigers, and Wolverines while enjoying the game with friends at the Cedar Tavern. In recent years, Kathy found great joy in participating in her bowling league in Traverse City, volunteering as photographer with the Cedar Polka Fest, and simply enjoying the good life with her growing extended family and friends. As Kathy would say, “It’s all par for the course, as the saying goes…” Kathy is survived by her children, Linda (Pat) Meehleder, Faye Barrigar, Kimberley (Anthony) YBarra, Laura Waslawski and Joe Waslawsk; sister in law, Barb (Pete) Laus with the nephews and nieces, Jimmy and Cheryl Laus, Jeff Laus, Jason Laus, Julie (Nate) McAuliffe, Joni ( Joe) Morse, brother in law Mike Svisco and nieces and nephews, Angela (Adam) Sterby, Elena (Ben) McClellan, Aaron (Cassie) Svisco and Joe Svisco; and her four-legged fur baby, Millie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund, her parents, Earl and Rosella Johnson and her beloved sister-in-law, Carol Sivsco.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 at Holy Rosary Church of Cedar.

The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26 with the Mass starting at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Father Donald Libby will serve as celebrant.
