Kenneth W. Ellis
Kenneth W. Ellis

On August 25, 1957, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ken married the love of his life, Mary J. Johnson, and together they shared nearly 68 wonderful years of marriage.
Ken proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he worked for over 30 years with the Upjon Company, based in Kalamazoo. His career took him to cities across the country, including Denver, San Francisco, Memphis, and Washington, D.C.
A devoted husband and father, Ken was always present for his children’s lives— cheering on his daughter at ice skating shows and volunteering with his son’s Boy Scout troop, even joining him on a Navy Retreat Tiger Cruise. He was also a proud Nebraska football fan, never missing a chance to support his team.
Died June 10, 2025
Ken’s love of sailing was central to his life. Weekend trips in Holland, Michigan, eventually led him on a voyage up Lake Michigan where he discovered Northport, the community he would later retire in. He was an active member of the Northport Yacht Club and frequently participated in the Northport Offshore Races. In his later years, Ken loved sharing stories and coffee with friends at Barb’s Bakery and the local fire station.
He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Northport for many years, where he served as treasurer and contributed to the church’s community.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Mary; his children, Kenneth Ellis and Carol Rayos; and his grandchildren, Maki and Waka Ellis, and Matthew Rayos. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lorraine (Robert) Greuter.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25th at 2:00 pm at Trinity Church UCC in Northport.
