Mary was born in Flint, Michigan, the only daughter of John Christopher and Bernice Owens, and graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She dedicated her life to nursing, family, friendship, and community, working in both Southeast and Northern Michigan. Mary and her husband Charles Dietrich raised four children and later retired to a farm in Northport where she became known as “The Flower Lady” through her Master Gardener work.
She is survived by her children Charles ( Jacque), Kristine, Karyn, and Christian (Lorna); grandchildren Arielle, Taylor, Owen, Finn, and Angus; brothers Bernard, Pat, and John; and Uncle Mike Coggins. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents, and her infant brother John Christopher II.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 2753 N. West Bay Shore Drive, Peshawbestown, Michigan, with a brunch to follow at 10:45 a.m.
Mary’s burial will take place later that day at Littlefield Township Cemetery, Alanson, Michigan at 3:00 p.m.
