NORTHPORT – Douglas Stephen Crilly, 87, of Northport, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Munson Medical Center with his family at his side.
Doug was born September 15, 1936 in Detroit the son of Leo and Pauline (Bzson) Crilly.
On April 14, 1956 in Redford Twp. he married Carol A. Koppen. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Together they had and raised three boys and supported them through all of their childhood activities.
Doug completed a plumbing apprenticeship and enjoyed a career as a union plumber and later as a plumbing inspector in Livingston County. He belonged to Plumbers Local 98. He also kept busy performing multiple tasks including delivering furniture for Carol at their home furnishing store Heartland House in Brighton.
Following his retirement in 2002, he and Carol moved to Northport. Here Doug made many friends. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards and meeting for coffee. Golf was his favorite activity which he enjoyed well into his eighties. He was proud to have had two holes–in-one.
Most importantly Doug was a family man. He enjoyed making people laugh and feel comfortable. He made a habit of lovingly teasing those closest to him. Doug was notorious for his weekend pancake breakfasts for all who visited. He was the self-proclaimed best pancake chef at the annual Northport Fly-in. He would also initiate the newcomers to his home when he made his annual holiday kielbasa by having them blow up the casings.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Carol; three children, Timothy (Christine) Crilly, Scott (Laurel) Crilly, Kelly (Karen) Crilly; a brother-in-law, Jim Hanson; four grandchildren, Nicole Crilly, Kyle Crilly, Douglas Crilly, Kelsey Crilly; five great grandchildren, Owen Crilly, Kennedy Crilly, Henry Crilly, Nik Holly, Brooklynn Vincent; special friends Jim Baudino, Dick Collins, Rick Reid, Penny Zika, Tammy Reika, Bruce Reid and his beloved dog Dannyboy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Charles (Pat) Crilly, Shirley (Ron) Piper, June ( Jerry) Brewer, Joyce Hanson, sister-in-law Irene (Tom) Zika and two grandchildren, Jordan Crilly and Jay Holly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Northport Highlands and Munson Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Per Doug’s request cremation has taken place and private family services have been held.
