LELAND – Milford Jay Schuette, 91, of Leland, passed away on July 17, 2025, in Elmwood Township.

Milford was born on October 21, 1933, in Saginaw, to the late Elmer and Mildred (Secord) Schuette. After serving in the US Army during the Korean War, Mil attended Michigan State University, majoring in accounting and graduating in 1958 with honors. He became a certified public accountant (CPA), eventually becoming a partner in Robson, Schuette, & Hutchinson (now Rehmann) in Saginaw.

Mil is survived by his wife, Valerie Jane (Ruby) Schuette, whom he married on December 29, 1954; his three children, Jane Schuette (Richard Stiles), Jill Schuette (Ben Gregory), and Jennifer Santoro (Michael); his siblings, Beth Marie Houston, Thomas Schuette, and Kim Schuette; his four grandchildren, Kara Stiles (Erik Hamilton), Joshua Stiles (Clara Heiden), Julianne Santoro, and Brady Santoro; his three greatgrandchildren, Juniper, Hana, and Millie; special family, Debbie and John Egerer, and many dear friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Louanne Rogers, and his two brothers, John and Dan Schuette.

We will greatly miss Mil- husband, Dad, and grandfather- and will forever think of him waiting in his driveway for us to arrive on Christmas Eve, or working the grill while viewing the Big Lake, martini with a twist in hand.

A celebration of Mil’s life will be held at a future date.
