Her travels started early, when her family began annual visits to the Pacific coast of Mexico. At 16, she spent a summer in southern Spain, staying with a family and studying the language through an international living program. After graduation from Traverse City Central High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington in 2011.

Anna attended grade school at the Montessori School in Suttons Bay. She graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 2006. In 2011, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies from Evergreen State College at Olympia, WA.

Her college years included enrollment in a program called the Mekong River Project which took Anna on journeys through the upper river basin in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The next term she studied Coastal and Marine Ecology with field sites in Thailand and Malaysia. In January of her senior year, she joined another program to study the ecosystems of the Amazon, mapping the river borderlands of Ecuador and Peru. She stayed to take an internship at the Wayquecha Cloud Forest Research Center near Cuzco, Peru. Other journeys took her to Dharamsala, India where she met the Dalai Lama, and to Guatemala and Costa Rica.
