Scott G. Hoxie

Scott G. Hoxie

Died August 25, 2025

Scott Hoxie, a beloved member of the Traverse City community, sailed into his final sunset on August 25, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on September 18, 1955, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Scott lived a life full of adventure, dedication, and love.

Scott’s journey took him to the windswept shores of North Manitou Island, where he proudly served as a lighthouse keeper at the North Manitou Shoal light station, locally known as “The Crib”. His time with the United States Coast Guard was marked by courage and steadfast commitment to keeping the waters safe. These experiences on the Great Lakes not only defined his career but also deepened his love for the water and the wild.

After his maritime adventures, Scott found his calling as a machinist and tool and die maker at Tower Automotive, where he applied his meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving skills. His hands crafted not just machinery, but a legacy of hard work and perseverance.

Scott’s family was his anchor. He leaves behind his cherished son, Grant (Krista) Hoxie, who continues to carry forward his spirit of resilience and curiosity. His brother, William “Billy” Hoxie, his sister, Theresa Guinta, and his brother, Chris Hoxie, and his nieces and nephews will forever remember him. Scott now joins his brothers, Robert and Gregory Hoxie, and his parents, William Hoxie and Jean Ann Hoxie Simsa, in eternal peace.

In keeping with Scott’s wishes, a private service will be held with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to take a moment to enjoy the beauty of a sunset or the sound of the waves, as Scott so often did.

While Scott has set sail on a new journey, his memory will continue to light our way, much like the lighthouses he cherished. His life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
