SUTTONS BAY – Gerald Neil Moody, 93, of Suttons Bay, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Medilodge of Leelanau.

Gerald was born August 17, 1932 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin the son of Donald and Corenna (Brady) Moody. On June 16, 1979 in Lake Orion, Michigan he married Mollie (Maynard) Moody who survives.

As a young man Jerry lost his father and became the best big brother to his siblings and took care of them after losing their father. Jerry spent a career in advertising rising to the level of Senior VP of Media for Ross Roy Advertising in Detroit. Jerry spent decades at Ross Roy with his major clients being the Kmart and Chrysler Corporations. He had a way of leadership that made his employees feel as part of a team and valued. Jerry’s contributions to the company had them sending he and Mollie to the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics and 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

He had a sense of humor and had a strong aptitude for finances while Mollie had an artistic side. Jerry encouraged Mollie in her artistic endeavors. His insight and suggestions to Mollie’s paintings gave a touch to her Grand Canyon and Cactus paintings. Jerry and Mollie spent winters in Arizona for 32 years and together they traveled the U.S. and the world.

In his Up North years Jerry was a natural 1932 ~ 2025

teacher and enjoyed meeting others as he did for several years with SCORE of Traverse City. He was generous in giving back to his community and volunteered at Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Suttons Bay Rotary. Jerry was smart, generous, loving and kind. He enjoyed gardening with a particular fondness for roses.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mollie, three children, Sally (Rick) Meese, Julie Moody, John (Terra) Moody; two siblings, Ross (Dede) Moody, Donna Moates; and three grandchildren, Bill Meese, Paul Collins and Peter Moody. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Bob Moody.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 27th at the Keswick United Methodist Church of Suttons Bay. Pastor Phillip Friedrick will officiate.
