Janis C. Plamondon

Janis was born on August 18, 1942, in Arcata, California, the daughter of James and Helena (Peterson) Fabbri. She met her soon-to-be husband, John, while he was working at a local gas station during his service in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in San Francisco. On September 3, 1966, in San Francisco, she married John E. Plamondon, who survives.
Janis had the biggest heart. She was an amazing gardener, especially fond of her flowers. She loved watching the birds feed as she enjoyed her morning coffee and often smiled as the deer came to eat apples from the front yard. She and her friends spent many happy hours playing Mahjong, and she also loved convertible rides and solitaire.
She was a talented cook and was famous for her pies and desserts. She had a knack for taking leftover pie crusts and turning them into delicious cookies. Janis loved the holidays, decorating, and time spent surrounded by family.
For decades, she and her husband John operated Leelanau Petroleum and opened the county’s first self-serve gas station/ 1942 ~ 2025
convenience store “J&J Food Shop” in Suttons Bay. The family has fond memories of spring breaks spent in Florida, and after becoming empty nesters, John and Janis enjoyed spending winters there together.
Janis is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, John; her three children, Jeff (Jill) Plamondon, Jason Plamondon, and Jennifer Plamondon; and her grandchildren, Shelby and Jacob Plamondon, and Simone Trerice.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill (Vivian) Fabbri.
