Virginia Ann Marach

Maple City – Virginia Ann (Sharnowski) Marach, 92, of Maple City, passed away peacefully at Kings Daughters home in Midland.

Virginia was born on February 24, 1933 in Maple City to the late Theophil “Ted” and Julia (Fabizak) Sharnowski.

On June 26, 1954 she married John Marach in Maple City, MI. Together they celebrated thirty-six years of marriage before his passing in 1991. Together they raised two daughters, Vicki and Anita.

Ginny was a devoted farmer’s wife, wonderful mom, and beloved grandma. Together, she and John built a life and a home on her family’s farm. Dedicated to hard work, Ginny would often be found tending to the farm’s needs – anything from turning the hay to repairing tractor seats. In addition, she spent many hours leading a local 4-H group. Ginny was also a talented seamstress, always dressing her daughters in handmade smocked dresses when they were young and even making each of their wedding dresses.

In her later years, Ginny attended Traverse City Cosmetology School and went to work at Meijers in their beauty salon. It is here that she enjoyed the friendships she built with her clients whose hair she styled over many years.

She will be remembered for her love for her family. She was an excellent cook, who made sure there were always gatherings at the farm that included her grandchildren’s favorite homemade polish dishes. She reveled in being a greatgrandmother and having the next generation living and working on the farm. She made sure there was always a basket full of treats ready and waiting for when they would pop into her house on breaks from their farm chores.

Virigina was preceded in death by her daughter Vicki (Butch) Verschaeve, her parents Julia and Ted Sharnowski, and her siblings Lawrence (Mary Anne) Sharnowski, Phillip (Sharon Sharnowski) and Barbara Sharnowski.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Anita (Mike) Groulx, grandchildren Bob (Katie) Verschaeve, Matt (Anne) Verschaeve, Mandi (Chris) Swafford, Kelly (Mike) Klecka, Adam Vershaeve, and Tom (Rachel) Vershaeve and her twelve greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Esther (William) Saxton.

The family would like to thank Ginny’s beloved caregiver in Traverse City, Marla, as well as King’s Daughters of Midland for the loving and caring attention that they provided. We will be forever grateful.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Verschaeve led the services. Interment followed at St. Rita Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her honor may be directed to King’s Daughters in Midland.
