Michelle C. Oskaboose
Michelle C. Oskaboose

Michelle was a member of the Grand Traverses Band of Ottawa and Chippawa Indians on her paternal side, as well as the Serpent River First Nation on her maternal side. She grew up with the Kewadin Indian church, and later in life became a member of the Pentecostals of Traverse City where she was baptized in Jesus’ name.
Michelle received her GED through the Grand Traverse Band Tribal School in 2004. And just as she accomplished her dream of educational attainment, she took pride in seeing each of her kids succeed in their classes and in life beyond: being there for all of her children while they earned their high school diplomas.
She loved being a mother to her three children, Alauna Wasnock, Grace Oskaboose, and Anthony Oskaboose. She always made sure each of her kids was loved and provided for. While she enjoyed being a mother to her children, she especially loved being a “Meemaw” to her grandson. She always made sure to shower Alauna’s son, CJ, with hugs and kisses, spoiling him with gifts every single chance she had.
Michelle loved being around her family and friends. Every time you spoke to Michelle, you would find her laughing or causing others to laugh. She loved to sing her favorite songs, no matter how she might sound singing them. She enjoyed all types of music, from gospel to late 90’s R&B, all the way to Regional Mexican music.
Michelle took delight in decorating the house every holiday, and even the times when there were no holidays to celebrate. Decor was rotated around seasonally at both her house in Peshawbestown and her apartment in the Herkner Reservation. She could never resist a good deal at the stores and enjoyed spreading joy to everyone around her with her purchases.
Michelle’s home was always open to everyone; she enjoyed having church at her house, helping others in need, or hosting a family celebration. Michelle’s loyalty and kindness made it easy to trust her and talk to her. She loved God and believed in the word of the Holy Ghost. She lived her life with good faith and hope.
She brought the daylight to every situation Died January 2, 2026
and saw the light through everything. She’s the guiding light towards life’s struggles because of her faith; she was never in the dark. Michelle will be dearly missed.
