Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother Sally Sue Butwell (Garthe), 80, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on September 5, 1945, to Harry and Fern Garthe of Leland, Michigan, Sue filled her life with compassion, strength, and love for her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years, Jeff Butwell; her children, Mark Butwell and his wife Kathie, and Kate Goodman and her husband Craig; and her cherished granddaughter, Ella Goodman, who brought her endless joy, and her sisters, Kathleen Ludwig and Margaret Garthe. Sue’s kindness touched everyone who knew her, and her memory will continue to live in the hearts of those she loved so deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Sue’s legacy through a donation in her name to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
