Robert W. Mebert

Robert W. Mebert

Died April 2, 2026

SUTTONS BAY — Robert Wayne Mebert, 77, of Suttons Bay passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at MediLodge of Grand Traverse, surrounded by the love of his family.

Robert was born on June 18, 1948, in Traverse City, the son of Robert and Jacqueline (Jacob) Mebert. From a young age, he had a natural curiosity and loved tinkering with things, especially watches and radios. He would take them apart just to see how they worked, and then carefully put them back together again.

He began working for John Bumgardner at the gas station in Suttons Bay and later went on to work for Grand Traverse Auto, where he remained until his retirement. Even after retiring, Robert’s skills were always in demand. Friends and neighbors often sought him out to work on their vehicles, and he was always willing to lend a hand. He had a gift for working on engines and could fix just about anything. Robert enjoyed riding his motorcycle and valued the freedom it gave him. He also had a special place in his heart for his Boston Bull Terrier, Suzy, who was a constant companion.

In the winter months, Robert spent time in Florida with his mother, Jacqueline, where they attended church together. Those were meaningful times for him, filled with both faith and family.

Robert is survived by his sisters, Marcia (David) Perosino and Terrielyn (Davy) Anys; his nieces and nephews, Jacqueline (David) Jameson, Charles (Cynthia) Leiby, Cedric Leiby, Glen ( Jade) Leiby, Toby (Heather) Anys, and Angela Anys; and 13 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Derek Robinson; two great nieces; and his beloved dog, Suzy.

Private family burial will take place at Keswick Maple Grove Cemetery.
