Died May 14, 2026

MAPLE CITY — Virginia Mae Petroskey, 74, of Maple City passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Munson Medical Center.

Ginger was born on June 29, 1951, in Traverse City, the daughter of Peter and Florence (Kirt) Sharnowski.

Ginger found her greatest happiness in her family.

Her grandchildren were truly her sunshine, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Whether playing card games, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company, she treasured being surrounded by those she loved most. She really enjoyed listening to her Grandson, Tyler, sing and play his guitar at family gatherings. She enjoyed attending and watching the grand kids play sports and would go to any event possible to show her love and support, rain or shine. She valued the simple things in life like getting her nails done with her sister Joyce, spending quality time visiting her sister Mary Lou, and regularly catching up with her friend Pam.

She loved boating and spending time on the water with her family, making memories that will be cherished for years to come. When not with her family, Ginger enjoyed watching crime shows, coloring, and taking scenic drives with Greg. More than anything, she valued togetherness and found joy in the simple gift of being with family whenever possible.

Ginger is survived by her loving companion, Greg Schettek; her children, Susan (Peter) Schaub, Amy (Ben) Stevens, Nicole Schettek, and Brad Schettek; her grandchildren, Tyler Plamondon, Hanna Schaub, Macey Plamondon, Whitney (Thane Herbert) Schaub, Owen Stevens, Oliver Stevens, Ashlyn Schettek, and Cason Schettek; her siblings, Joyce (Bob) Hallead, Ron (Elaine) Sharnowski, Frank (Brenda) Sharnowski, Jane Anderson, and Mark (Linda) Sharnowski; and her sisters in law, Barb Sharnowski and Lyla Sharnowski, along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Florence Sharnowski; her daughter, Cathy Plamondon; and her siblings, Gus Sharnowski, Mel Sharnowski, Mary Lou ( Jerry) Kelly, Tom Sharnowski, and Jack (Lorraine) Sharnowski.

A celebration of Ginger’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 11th at the home of Sue and Peter Schaub.
