Suttons Bay – Joan Marie Orent, 83, of Suttons Bay, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on June 1, 2026.

Joan was born on April 3, 1943 in Grand Rapids to the late Peter Thomas and Lotus (Hall) Thiebout. She graduated from Creston High School in 1961.

On February 1, 1964 she married Robert Walter Orent in Grand Rapids.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau.

Her hobbies included golfing, gardening and reading. She and Bob also enjoyed spending time in the Port Charlotte area in Punta Gorda, Florida for many years during the winter months. She will be remembered with love for her determination and strong-willed personality.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, their children Greg (Carla) Orent, Doug (Cherry) Orent; grandchildren Jared, Lindsay, Victoria, and Hope (Alec) Milliron; and brother Tom Thiebout.

The memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at St. Mary’s in Lake Leelanau at 12 noon, with visitation beginning one hour prior. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be directed to the Susan G. Komen foundation for Breast Cancer Research. She was a proud breast cancer survivor of over 20 years.
