Lewis Gerrans Gatch died on April 28, 2026. Lew grew up on the family farm in Milford, Ohio, and on Lake Leelanau in the summers with his extended Greeno family. He graduated from Princeton University (ROTC) in 1956. After marrying his childhood sweetheart, Noralee Thomas, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana, earning his paratrooper wings. He received a law degree from the University of Michigan and in 1961 joined the family law firm, Gatch, Ritchie and Kleinmann in Cincinnati, beginning a legal career that spanned nearly 65 years. Lew particularly enjoyed his time practicing in Northern Michigan, giving lively seminars on revocable living trusts and hosting “Everybody’s Planning Hour” on WTCM in Traverse City.
