On September 9 the world lost a lovely man. Reuben Chapman was born 3/8/38 & raised in Sterling, Illinois. He graduated from Shimer College, Mt Carroll,ILL,. At age 18, he graduated from Shimer College, Mt Carroll,IL. He lived and worked in Ann Arbor after earning Masters & PHD from University of Michigan. He worked with Acts For Peace in California for several years.

Reuben became known for promoting biking for pleasure & transportation— “Mr.Bicycle”. He raced briefly, owned and operated a bicycle delivery service, wrote & taught how to ride & bicycle tour on busy public roads. He met his wife, Mary Ann, teaching bike touring tips.

Reuben became a trusted Financial Advisor, enjoyed music, baked super sourdough bread & liked to grow vegetables. He and Mary Ann started and tended a market in Empire, MI for local farmers to sell fresh produce. They had many happy bicycle tours exploring areas in the U.S. & Canada. Reuben was also a lifelong active supporter of equal rights and opportunities for all people and worked to help protect and nurture a healthy environment.

Reuben was a kind, loving friend, husband, step-dad, brother, uncle, grandad and caring world citizen—all of those. He will be sorely missed.
