Died September 24, 2026 OMENA - Dale Malotte Blount, 91, of Omena, passed away September 24, 2026, in his home.

Dale was born on October 23, 1934, in Cape Girardeau, MO, the son of Harry and Thelma (Freeman) Blount. On June 20, 1959, he married Joan Ruth Landron.

Although Dale’s accomplishments may be a proper way to be remembered, his life and the lives he’s touched reach far beyond a list of accolades.

Dale earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Michigan State University, and his Ph.D. in Shakespeare from Indiana University. He changed lives through his brilliant instruction, mentoring students, inspiring excellence, and building lifelong relationships.

Dale was proud of his service as a Lieutenant in the US Navy, and his love of boating and the water remained a constant throughout his life. As a Rotarian, and a lifetime philanthropist, Dale gave of his time, money, skills, and resources to improve human lives and reduce suffering. “He is as full of valor as of kindness. Princely in both.” (Henry V Act 4 Scene 3) Dale is survived by his wife, Joan, his daughters, Andrea (Jim) Makarauskas of Traverse City, and Kristen ( Jeffery) Brown of Grawn; grandchildren, Lauren (Dallas) Milligan of Cadillac, and Jeff Makarauskas of New York City; Dan Brown of Detroit, Erica Brown of Mt. Pleasant, greatgranddaughter, Belle Milligan, and

Sister-in-law Stephanie Blount.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Blount, and brothers Stanley Blount and Harry Blount.

Funeral Service will be held at Sutton’s Bay Congregational Church at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 29, with a 1:00 visitation at the church preceding the funeral service.
