MaryAnn Martin
MaryAnn Martin

MaryAnn was born December 8, 1946 in Detroit, the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Kowalack) Grikschat.
MaryAnn was a loving wife. Devoted mother, gracious caregiver, friend, wonderful cook and the true CEO of her household. Known to many by her nickname “Cricket”, MaryAnn brought intelligence, warmth, humor, and an unmistakable sense of love to everything she did.
MaryAnn met the love of her life, Edward Martin, while attending St Hedwig School., and during Eds senior year at Edsel Ford High School, they both attended the same dance held at the Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park. Ed spotted MaryAnn among a group of cheerleaders. That moment in time began a lifelong love story. MaryAnn and Ed were married on November 16, 1965 in Detroit, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
She was a natural caregiver, with a generosity that knew few limits. MaryAnn loved to cook, bake and shop. She taught herself how to prepare traditional Hungarian dishes, whipping up recipes that became part of her family’s memories. There is a certain irony that, although MaryAnn did not like gravy, she somehow managed to make some of the very best around.
MaryAnn’s legacy lives on in the people that she loves, the traditions she passed down, the laughter she shared, and the countless acts of kindness shown to those she encountered. Her love, strength, and generous spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
MaryAnn is survived by her loving husband Edward; her children Michael (Amy) Martin, and Jennifer (William) Gillespie; her grandchildren, Derek, Ian, Joshua(Hailey), Devon (Heather), Ava, Renae; great grandchild Hendrix; her brother James (Lee) Grikschat; three nephews Jeff Perkins, John Grikschat, Steven Grikschat, niece Kim Perkins; special friends Theresa Dziurgot, and Sue Wallace( thank you for taking her on adventures).
