Frederick L. Stackable Esq., died peacefully on July 31, the day after the 23rd anniversary of his marriage to the love of his life, Joyce Howard Frank Stackable, who preceded him in death.

He was attended in his passing by loving family.

Fred proudly served as an elected Ingham County Commissioner and 2 terms as the State Representative for Lansing’s 58th House District. Overall, Fred stood for public election 9 times and never lost. He was a longtime fixture on the Lansing legal scene, including as an Ingham County Circuit Court Commissioner and as President of the Michigan Association of Circuit Court Commissioners. He received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and his law degree from Wayne State University. He was also preceded in death by his beloved parents Lawrence and Dorothea, and his brother Edward. He is survived by his stepchildren Richard (Wendy), Scott (Jean), Elizabeth (Tony), and William (Pamela); his 13 grandchildren: John, Scott and Erik (Rick and Wendy); Austin, Hallie, Mitch, Anastasia and Peter (Scott and Jean); Paul, Dan, and Joy (Libby and Crit); and Sarah and Annalise (Bill and Pam); and 13 great grandchildren: Dominic, Xiomi, Franklin, and Jude (Hallie and John); Isaac, Jonah, and Ada (Dan and Sarah); Schaefer and Pierce (Paul and Elizabeth); Theresa and Nicholas (Austin and Alison); Arden (Sarah); and Everett (Scott and Lexi). He is also survived by his nephews, Brian (Dale) and Mark (Wendy). In addition to his family and friends, Fred loved speed. He spent 20 years as a stock car racer, also racing snowmobiles and motorcycles. He was first runner-up in a nationally televised demolition derby national championship. He thrived on horseback, taking multiple rides across Michigan with Joyce and the Michigan Trail Riders Association. By his own accounting, Fred managed to fracture 15 bones on various occasions during his high-speed endeavors. He was generous, loyal, stubborn, mischievous, demanding, and cantankerous, often eager to provoke others through his willful misbehavior. He loved roller coasters, fireworks, rare steak, butter, whole milk, and tomato juice with beer. He could spend endless hours telling stories and watching classic westerns, and took pride in his collection of Frederic Remington Western statues. He loved his hometown, Lansing, and his second home on the bluff, just north of Leland, Michigan. There, he loved to entertain friends and family, especially his step-children, grandchildren and great-grands. From his home high on a Lake Michigan bluff, he loved the view of the Manitou Islands, eagles soaring, and an amazing assortment of wildlife. A Memorial for Fred will be held on October 8 at 1 pm at 6074 South Snug Harbor Lane on Lime Lake in Cedar, MI. In lieu of flowers, Fred requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels, the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Michigan, or the Leelanau Conservancy.
