Deputy superintendent Tom Ulrich has been the face of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore through the best and worst of times. Ulrich, who is retiring this month, started his 20-year tenure at the Lakeshore when the National Park Service was trying to push through a controversial and restrictive management plan that most residents opposed.
