James G. McCord, 78, of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024.

Jim was born to Dr. James and Marilyn McCord December 16, 1945 in Morris, Illinois. He grew up with his brother, Steve and sister, Maril McCord.

The family settled down in Cincinnati, where Jim attended school and made lifelong friends. He enjoyed spending winters in Stuart, Florida and summers in Northport, Michigan.

Jim had a long and enjoyable career with R.C. Ford & Associates. His success in business and other ventures allowed him to spend his free time doing what he loved most; cars, planes, trains, and boats. He sailed and boated the Great Lakes, Caribbean, and Florida’s intracoastal waterway. He spent his last few summers enjoying Lake Michigan aboard his trawler, ‘Mia’. Jim had a love for flying, most recently piloting a restored DC3. He loved cars, road trips, and always chose to take the long and scenic route. He drove his antique Austin Healey convertible cross country and more recently loved driving his grandchildren around the neighborhood in it. He had a passion for trains and took countless train trips across North America. One of his final projects was constructing a model train room in his house. He also loved golfing, fishing, and hunting.

He shared all of his passions with his family and friends. He was the loving father to James G. McCord II ‘JG’ (Gina), Kathryn ‘Katie’ Ambrite (Aaron), and Christine ‘Whiz’ Vollmer (Graham). He was the loving grandfather ‘PawPaw‘ to Lucie and Hayes Ambrite, and Carter, Chloe, and Graham Jr. Vollmer. He will be dearly missed.

Jim’s wish was for his memorial service to be reserved for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to one of the below organizations: Florida Oceanographic Society, Leelanau Conservancy, or American Cancer Society.
