‘Green Book’ topic of talk
The Glen Lake Library will host historian Christine Byron on Monday, October 21 at 5 p.m., for a presentation about the “Green Book”, a travel guide for African Americans. The Green Book was published from 1938 through 1967, and listed places where African Americans were welcomed customers.

Early breast cancer detection
In order to help detect and treat breast cancer at its earliest stage, screening exams and having regular mammograms are essential. Screening can’t prevent breast cancer itself, but it can help to identify the disease before it spreads, making it easier to manage and treat in both men and women.

Local Hop Alliance continues to produce
Hop Alliance in Omena harvested hops for the 17th time this summer and fall. While the business is not legally an adult yet, Hop Alliance remains the oldest hop yard in Michigan.

Solar panel grant request nixed
Leelanau County applied in February for $1.5 million in state funds to build two solar arrays on the government center campus in Suttons Bay. The grant process was competitive and over 50 organizations applied. The commission administering the grants announced Sept. 26 that Leelanau County would not be one of the recipients.
