Book in the making for Whitmer
If they awarded frequent flyer miles for the number of times Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has received large doses of national media attention, she could spend the rest of her three year term flying around the world. 01/03/2024 07:41 PM

A tip of the hat to Northport’s Dan Scripps
It’s a pleasure to share Leelanau County with Dan Scripps. A reluctant attorney — Mr. 01/03/2024 07:41 PM
Great Lakes protection more important than ever
Great Lakes protection more important than ever
“Dan Scripps quietly plays a lead role in Michigan’s energy future from his home office in Northport” began the 12/20 Leelanau Enterprise interview. Michigan Public Service Commission Chairman Scripps is highly regarded both here and in Lansing, which makes his approval of the Enbridge tunnel difficult to understand. Scripps said “..housing that [Line 5] segment within the tunnel would virtually eliminate the risk the current pipelines pose to the Great Lakes” just as Enbridge has been telling us. 12/27/2023 04:58 PM
STRs can be good neighbors
STRs can be good neighbors
It seems that short-term rentals (STRs) are on peoples’ minds in Leelanau County. Suttons Bay Village recently signed a contract for a third party to monitor STR listings and operate a 24/7 hotline for complaints; Elmwood Township directed its planning commission to use an overlay district or zoning amendments to remove STRs from “Greilickville neighborhoods”; and Suttons Bay and Bingham townships are updating their STR ordinances and introducing “good neighbor” policies. 12/20/2023 09:57 PM
Year-end reflections on Board of Commissioners
Year-end reflections on Board of Commissioners
Residents can take pride in their county government. Our elected officials (Clerk, Sheriff, Prosecutor, Courts, Treasurer, Register of Deeds) and our staff are outstanding. We have low tax rates, little debt, balanced budgets, and a well-funded retirement system. We provide efficient delivery of services vital to the county’s economy and our citizens’ wellbeing. 12/13/2023 05:43 PM
Poll has Trump up in Michigan
Poll has Trump up in Michigan
If you want to be president for four more years and your victory may hinge on your opponent being in the slammer, you’d have to say things are pretty shaky. That’s the harsh reality the Joe Biden for President campaign is staring in the face these days based on the latest Michigan swing state polling data from EPIC-MRA. 12/06/2023 05:33 PM
Celebrating in song:
Celebrating in song:
Kids from all over the county are prepping for their annual holiday music programs. And in coming weeks they will don their best seasonal colors of red, white and green and usher audiences into the holiday with song. 12/06/2023 05:33 PM
Thumbs up, down
Thumbs up, down
Periodically, the Enterprise offers a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” to activities taking place on the peninsula. Here’s the latest. The hundreds of people that came out for holiday events to kick off the festive season in Leelanau County — whether it was at the Northport tree lighting festivities, holiday and artisan markets in Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, Empire or Leland. Shopping local and being there to support the efforts of volunteers and local townships/villages helps make for a more united and overall connected community. Last month, the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office took four separate complaints relating to a scam on Facebook Marketplace. A county resident of Bingham Township has had several different people show up at their residence attempting to either look at or pick-up items that are for sale on Facebook Marketplace. 12/06/2023 05:33 PM
