When you have a problem, talk it out
I understand that tensions are high in an election year with highly controversial presidential candidates. But nonetheless, I urge people to attempt an open dialogue with each other before throwing the first blow.

Chasing the Northern Lights
Severe solar storms and dazzling Northern Lights displays have been gracing the skies of Michigan more than usual these past few months, and like so many other people amazed by the natural phenomena, I have been relishing every chance I get to see them.

Thanks to the dads in our lives
It’s been nearly 25 years since I’ve spent Father’s Day with my dad; 2013 with my fatherin- law. But they are still with us.

Possible gubernatorial candidates for 2026
There are, give or take, about 550 days before Michigan voters pick a new governor, so you might be asking yourself why am I about to waste my time on a column on whom might be the next governor in November 2026?

‘Wacky’ time in the state capital
This is a wacky time of the year around these parts. Members of the house are itching to get the heck out of here to run for reelection back home which is Job One for them. The onlyproblemisJob Onefor you, if you want any state services, is for them to spend $80 billion of your tax dollars first. That includes everything from state cops to janitors at your local school and everything in between.

Rain brings back memories of Mom
I moved to Traverse City for work in April 2023, so this has been the second time I’ve watched Leelanau County’s cherry trees blossom. Fewer attending college despite scholarships
If you build it they will come but if you offer high school kids a hefty bonus for going to college, many won’t come. Such is the rather amazing finding that despite a state scholarship program dangling upwards of $5,500 a year to attend a four year university, 62% of last year’s high school graduating class found something else to do rather than pursue a higher education.

Spring awakenings and garden happenings
Since moving into our rental in 2021, I’ve been wanting to start a little garden in the yard for my mom and I, and as soon as it hit May, ready or not, I made sure to follow through with my intentions. With a few bags of soil, a variety of flower and vegetable seeds, a shovel, cultivator, and gloves (of which already has holes), I got my hands dirty and began my gardening journey.

Craig, a ‘friend’ to Leelanau’ will be missed
Curiosity is the essence of a good interview. That’s why I left the Scott Craig and Carol Bawden home with a feeling of inadequacy.

Freshman legislator ruffling feathers
Imagine you are on a new job for three months when the boss calls you in strongly suggesting that you need to perform a certain function which is against everything you stand for. As they say on the TV broadcast, “What would you do?” Say hello to Dylan Wegela.
