Nominations sought for Omena Village President
You can call us crazy, but here in Omena, we love our local politics. We are pleased to announce that the Omena Historical Society (OHS) is hosting its Sixth Triennial Omena Mayor Race. Qualifying candidates must be animals other than humans, and reside seasonally or full time in the Greater Omena area. Of the six Mayors to-date, five have been canines and one feline. In addition to Mayor Rosie Disch, a yellow lab mix, the Omena Village Council currently includes Vice Mayor Penny Labriola, a chicken, Press Secretary Sandra O’Day Jones, a goat, and ten canine Council members. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

Northport school BOE adopts 2024-25 budget
The Northport Public School Board of Education (BOE) approved its proposed $6 million general fund budget for the 2024-25 year at its regular meeting/ budget hearing Monday night. Rick Deering retires after 33 years
After 33 years of driving the school bus at Northport Public School, Rick Deering, 72, is turning in the keys and is ready to retire. Other “work” projects could arise in the future, but for now, Deering wrapped up his last day on June 6, the district’s final day of instruction for the 2023-2024 academic year. 06/12/2024 05:52 PM

The Cleveland Township Board adopted a new short-term rental (STR) ordinance cracking down on rentals in residential and agricultural districts this week.
