To the editor: Some of our county commissioners are enamored with green energy projects, but are apparently unaware of the costs, environmental impacts, and reliability issues. Mother Earth News reports in their article “Dirty Drawbacks of Clean Energy” from June/July 2024, lithium mining is intensely damaging to the environment. 07/17/2024 05:06 PM

To the editor: Why renew the Early Childhood millage on 8/6? Lilian Katz, professor emerita, Early Childhood Education, University of Illinois, says it best: “We must recognize that the welfare of our children and grandchildren is intimately linked to the welfare of other people’s children. Linda Randel is a member of the Friends of the Suttons Bay-Bingham Library — not a member of the Suttons Bay-Bingham Library Board as listed in her letter to the editor last week. *** Lisa Migazzi, has hired as a multi-age 1/2 grade teacher at Leland Public School. This is a full-time position, not half-time as listed in an article last week. *** Clarification: The Friends of the Sleeping Bear Dunes’ motorized chairs are available to rent free of charge. 07/17/2024 05:06 PM

Why support renewal of the Early Childhood Millage?
Why support renewal of the Early Childhood Millage?
When they first approved an Early Childhood millage, local voters were acknowledging the fact that parents of young children often need more or different support than what they can get from their extended family, friendship groups, or church. Prior to that millage, Leelanau families had been able to seek such help from an informal network of service providers, including churches and nonprofits. But the county itself offered only basic health services for families with young children, and the limited services available through the informal network were always facing an uncertain funding future. 07/17/2024 05:06 PM

To the editor: Democrats have finally admitted, the emperor has no clothes, and as such, many are advocating to replace President Joe Biden’s with Vice President Kamala Harris. Only politician less intelligible than Joe Biden, is Kamala Harris. 07/17/2024 05:06 PM
