Anishinaabe History Project signage approved

  • The Kchi Wiikwedong Anishinaabe History Project, first introduced to Leelanau Township in March by Emily Modrall, is coordinating the effort with the Traverse Area Historical Society. The project mission is to elevate public awareness of the Anishinaabek’s long history in the Grand Traverse region by increasing accessible information with the new signage. Plans for new signage conveying Anishinaabe teachings and history were approved last week Tuesday at Leelanau Township’s regular board meeting. The sign installation would be placed on township property in Omena and near Peterson Park in Northport, and will in turn become assets and property of the township.
